Time Warner Cable Expands Charlotte Operations

Time Warner Cable is expanding with the construction of a $36-million facility adjacent to its existing offices in Charlotte, N.C. Time Warner, the second-largest operator of cable systems in the nation, currently employs 700 workers in Charlotte and plans to expand operations with 350 new jobs to include additional functions.

Time Warner Opens New York Headquarters

Time Warner opened its new headquarters in New York City  in early February 2004. The $1.7-billion facility will house the future Manhattan studios of CNN. The two-tower development accommodates 211,000 sf of office space. The 2.8 million-sf complex also contains a luxury hotel and high-end retail space.

ATX Communications Relocates to Upper Merion

ATX Communications is relocating its headquarters from Bala Cynwyd to 102,000 sf in Upper Merion. Doubling ATX’s footprint, the move will enable consolidation of the company’s 500-plus area employees in one location and provide room for expansion. ATX will move to the new facility, which is currently occupied by Wyeth, in January 2004.

Titan Plans Anne Arundel County Facility

Titan, a San Diego-based telecom consultant, has pre-leased 157,000 sf in a planned facility at Anne Arundel County’s National Business Park. Construction is expected to break ground in the second quarter of 2003 on the $26-million facility; delivery is slated for the second quarter of 2004. Corporate Office Properties Trust is the owner and developer of the project. Titan is a provider of communication and information systems services and solutions to the federal government and intelligence agencies.

Onramp Access Relocates and Expands Austin Operations

Clear Channel Leases Burbank Facilities

Clear Channel Communications has leased 95,000 sf in The Pinnacle, a 235,000-sf, six-story, 4.4-acre office complex in Burbank, Calif. Clear Channel, based in San Antonio, will locate its eight Los Angeles-area radio stations in the facility.

Flextronics Expands Youngsville Plant

Singapore-based Flextronics International is engaged in a $20-million, 560,000-sf expansion of its Youngsville, N.C., manufacturing facility. One of two U.S. technology campuses, the facility will house design, engineering, testing, and manufacturing operations for optical communications products. The project will enable Flextronics to add approximately 1,500 additional jobs.

NFL Films Completes New Headquarters

NFL Films's new 200,000-sf headquarters and production facility will initiate its first year of service with the 2002 football season. Designed by Russ Berger Design Group of Dallas and Garrison Architects of Bala Cynwyd, the project team also included the Philadelphia office of The Staubach Company as development manager and construction manager W.S. Cumby & Son of Swarthmore.

Clear Channel Builds Corporate Service Center

Clear Channel Worldwide is nearing completion of its 123,000-sf Corporate Service Center in Stone Oak, Texas. The three-story, $15-million project will house a data center, a network operations center, seven call centers, and administrative offices. Construction is slated for completion at the end of October 2002, with occupancy of the data center beginning as early as Sept. 15. Employees will occupy the rest of the facility in phases over the next few months. The center will employ 400 workers.

George Washington University Upgrades Communications Network

George Washington University is engaged in a $7.8-million project to upgrade its Foggy Bottom Campus communications network. Over 15,000 faculty, students, and administrators will use the network, which will be accompanied by the university's implementations of Internet telephony services, making the network accessible via desktop or laptop computers.

NBC Builds San Francisco Facilities

NBC is building a new street-level television studio and newsroom in 25,000 sf of leased space in San Francisco. National and local advertising sales staff will be housed in existing office space in the facility, where Bay Area broadcasts for MSNBC, Telemundo, and NBC National News will originate. Accommodating between 75 and 85 employees, the space will be ready for occupancy toward the end of October. The project was designed by architect Gensler.

UCSD Develops Cal-(IT)2

The University of California, San Diego has selected Gilbane Co. of Phoenix as general contractor and construction manager for the $102.5-million California Institute of Telecommunications and Information Technology project, Cal-(IT)2. The 215,000-sf research facility is slated to begin construction in January and reach completion in two years.
