George Mason University broke ground in May of 2022 on the $84 million Life Sciences and Engineering Building in Manassas, Va. Located on the Science and Technology Campus in Prince William County, the 133,000-gsf facility will accommodate STEM-H programs in science, technology, engineering, mathematics, and health sciences. The multidisciplinary structure will provide flexible teaching labs, classrooms, and support spaces that will be used by the College of Engineering and Computing, the College of Science, the College of Education and Human Development, and the College of Visual and Performing Arts. Featuring collaborative learning environments for experiential education, the transformative project will offer specialized instructional venues for degree courses in materials science, mechanical engineering, forensic science, bioengineering, and kinesiology. The four-story building will also house faculty and administrative offices to foster interaction between faculty, staff, and students from across the university community.
Designed by Page, the sustainable facility is expected to attain a minimum of LEED Silver certification. Skanska will begin construction on the project in December of 2022 with completion expected in 2025.
