RWJBarnabas Health and Rutgers Cancer Institute of New Jersey opened the $1 billion Jack & Sheryl Morris Cancer Center in May of 2025 in New Brunswick. Designed by HOK, the 520,000-sf building collocates world-class research environments with welcoming settings for clinical care to optimize patient outcomes. The 12-story structure features highly visible laboratories where up to ten teams of physician-scientists will translate new findings into live-saving treatments, and faculty members can work side-by-side with medical students engaged in experiential education.

Outpatient facilities include 80 exams rooms, 88 infusion bays, a diagnostic imaging suite, an urgent care clinic, and an advanced radiology center with four linear accelerators. A dedicated floor for surgeries and procedures is accompanied by three levels of inpatient space offering 96 beds in spacious, amenity-rich rooms. Leading-edge infrastructure will enhance the development and deployment of innovative clinical trials, supported by robust instrumentation suites and a central sterile processing unit. A four-story atrium illuminated by abundant natural light incorporates a wellness garden to promote healing and recovery.

Linked by a skybridge to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital and Rutgers Cancer Institute, the freestanding facility is the state’s only National Cancer Institute-designated Comprehensive Cancer Center. The project was delivered by the New Brunswick Development Corporation (DEVCO) in partnership with Middlesex County and the City of New Brunswick. Langan Engineering performed civil, geotechnical, and environmental engineering services, with O'Donnell & Naccarato as structural engineer and AKF Group as MEP/FP engineer. THA Consulting guided the planning for the adjacent 1,000-car parking garage. Ground was broken in June of 2021.

The Jack & Sheryl Morris Cancer Center is the cornerstone of RWJBarnabas Health’s $1.5 billion investment in cancer services across the state of New Jersey. Delivering patient-centric services and groundbreaking treatments, this integrated network of physicians, scientists, and facilities will transform the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of cancer in the state and beyond.
