Advanced Thin Films Relocates to Boulder
Advanced Thin Films will relocate operations from Longmont, Colo., to a 35,000-sf facility in Boulder in late summer of 2008. A $1.25 million renovation of the facility will include construction of a cleanroom. The sustainably designed facility will incorporate energy efficient building systems. Advanced Thin Films provides custom optical lenses and thin film technologies to the aerospace, research, and medical industries.
Georgetown University Constructs Science Building
Georgetown University broke ground in summer of 2008 on its 155,000-gsf Science Center. Slated for completion in late 2010, the technology-rich facility will feature flexible open labs and advanced instruments for team-based research. Supporting the departments of biology, chemistry, and physics, the building will house classrooms, faculty offices, research and teaching labs, support space, and lounges. The project is designed to foster interactive multidisciplinary research with removable walls for ease of reconfiguration and an abundance of glass walls for transparency.
Royal Jubilee Hospital Breaks Ground in Victoria
Royal Jubilee Hospital broke ground on its $350 million inpatient facility in Victoria, B.C., in July of 2008. The 37,000-sm, 500-bed hospital will provide acute care as well as housing a Centre of Excellence in elder care. The patient-centered facility will open in early 2011 with 400 beds, 80 percent of them in private rooms, with more beds to be added according to demand. LEED Gold certification for sustainable design will be sought for the project.
Hewlett-Packard Plans Conway Technical Support Center
Hewlett-Packard will build a 150,000-sf technical support center in Conway, Ark. Site work will begin for the $30 million project in August of 2008. The general contractor is Conway Development Corp. LEED certification for sustainable design will be sought for the facility.
Indiana University and Notre Dame Partner on Cancer Research Center
The University of Notre Dame and Indiana University School of Medicine are partnering to create the $20 million Harper Cancer Institute in South Bend, Ind. The 55,000-sf facility will be constructed as an addition to the existing IU School of Medicine building adjacent to Notre Dame’s campus. Supporting research into the genetic and molecular basis of cancer, the project will house 28 laboratories and offices. Harper Hall will break ground in late 2008 with occupancy expected in 18 months.
