Bayer Animal Health Breaks Ground on Shawnee Distribution Center

Bayer Animal Health broke ground on March 2, 2004 on a $14-million, 232,000-sf warehousing and distribution center in Shawnee, Kan. Located at the company’s 52-acre site, the facility will warehouse and distribute animal and human pharmaceuticals as well as accommodating office space for a customer call center. Project contractor Clayco of St. Louis is slated to complete construction by year-end 2004. Bayer Animal Health is a division of Bayer HealthCare LLC.

American Red Cross Relocates to Seton Industrial Park

The American Red Cross will expand with a relocation of its headquarters in June 2004 to 30,000-sf in the Seton Industrial Park in Baltimore. Housing all the chapter departments including health and safety, youth services, and emergency services, the facility will also be the home of the American Red Cross Holocaust and War Victims Tracing Center.

Tyson Foods Plans R&D Facility

Tysons Foods is working with Hellmuth, Obata + Kassabaum of St. Louis to design a new $40 million research, development, and training facility in Springdale, Ark. The Discovery Center will be sited on 16 acres at Tyson’s corporate campus and will accommodate Tyson’s research and development team, management training staff, and marketing group. The center will house 220 employees and will feature 20 product development kitchens; a USDA-inspected pilot plant; a consumer focus group area; a packaging design and development testing facilities; and a proprietary sensory testing lab.

Louisiana State Courthouse Planned in Baton Rouge

A new 260,000-sf Louisiana State courthouse will be developed in Baton Rouge. The joint design team for the project, KPS Group of Birmingham and Post Architects of Baton Rouge, will complete the design and solicit construction bids by August 15, 2004. The $45-million project will reach completion in 18 to 24 months following groundbreaking. A site has not yet been selected for the courthouse.

San Mateo Community College District Upgrades Athletic Facilities

The San Mateo Community College District has selected sports-related engineering contractor CMX of Phoenix to lead the design team for athletic upgrades at three of its California colleges. The $15 million design-build project involves running tracks, upgraded football and soccer fields, track infield areas, tennis courts, baseball fields, improved seating areas, storage structures and press-boxes at College of San Mateo, Skyline College, and Canada College. Robert A. Bothman Inc. of San Jose is the project contractor.
