Samsung Upgrades Austin Plant

Samsung Austin Semiconductor LLP is investing $200 million to revamp its entire plant from .23 micron to .18 miron chips, the dynamic random access memory (DRAM) industry standard for chip size. Equipment for the micron shift is expected to be moved in by summer 2000. The upgrade will also include a $7 million, 19,000-sf addition of lab and office space to accommodate the company's electronic die sort operations. Completion of the additional space is anticipated in late 2000 or early 2001.

CDC Awaits Funding for Renovations

Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's 10-year building and renovation plans for the CDC's two main Atlanta campuses are expected to cost approximately $1.1 billion. Five new laboratories and four lab renovations, plus renovations to a number of lab support buildings, are included in the plan. A substantial increase for the CDC's 2001 facilities budget has been approved by the US House of Representatives and the US Senate. Approval of the new budget would speed completion of the project.

Flint Ink Completes New World HQ

Flint Ink completed the 88,605-sf renovation and expansion of its corporate world headquarters in Ann Arbor, Mich., in April 2000. The majority of the center's expansion is contained within a three-story office addition. Interior additions include a new two-story lobby and entry plaza, a high-bay testing lab and loading dock. HarleyEllis acted as both architect and engineer for the project. Walbridge Aldinger served as general contractor and construction manager. Great Lakes Mechanical provided HVAC mechanical services.

New Merck Office Building

Merck & Company is building a new 220,000-sf office facility at its headquarters site in Whitehouse Station, N.J. The building was designed by Ballinger of Philadelphia, and will occupy an undeveloped 250-acre parcel adjacent to the headquarters. The three-story buildling can house 800 employees at capacity, and is designed with an open office plan. Amenities include dining areas, training/conference facilities, a fitness center, and credit union.

ADC Telecommunications Plans New World HQ

ADC Telecommunications Inc. is planning a new $100 million, eight-building world headquarters and technology campus. The new headquarters, a 91-acre site in Eden Prairie, Minn., will house ADC corporate, engineering, and divisional offices, and include office space, labs, light manufacturing areas and parking facilities. Amenities include a 280-seat auditorium, on-site fitness center, and expanded corporate training facilities. Johnson Controls Personal Environments will be installed at the individual workspaces.
