Capital One Consolidates in Tysons Corner
Capital One Financial, based in Falls Church, Va., has plans to consolidate five regional offices at a new corporate campus in Tysons Corner in Northern Virginia. The 28-acre site will accommodate 700 employees in 2002, when the facility is scheduled for completion.
USAA Builds Operations Center in Phoenix
USAA's Western Operations Center has broken ground in Phoenix. Two three-story buildings with 116,097 sf each will house 550 employees when construction is completed in 2001. A second phase of construction will commence in 2001. In 2002, 700-750 more employees will be added.
GTS Builds Data Center
Global TeleSystems (GTS) is building a 55,000-sf data center in Loudoun County to service Internet companies. Completion is scheduled for the fourth quarter of 2000. Based in McLean, Va., GTS is the U.S. division of the British company.
Toshiba Expands in Manassas
Toshiba will partner with SanDisk of Silicon Valley to invest $700 million in an expansion at the Dominion Semiconductor plant in Manassas for a new company, Flash-Vision, that plans to manufacture a new memory chip there.
Nortel Expands in Alpharetta
Nortel Networks Corp. plans to build twin 180,000-sf structures at its Windward campus in Alpharetta to accommodate its fiber-optic equipment business. Barry Real Estate Cos. of Atlanta will develop the facilities that will eventually accommodate approximately 1,500 employees. Construction on the first building began in April, with completion anticipated in twelve months.
