Amgen Leases South San Francisco Research Facility

Amgen has leased a 240,000-sf research facility located on the Gateway of Pacific campus in South San Francisco, Calif. Amgen will occupy the entire north tower, which is being constructed by BioMed Realty as part of the second phase of development at the site. Featuring modular wet and molecular labs designed for optimal energy efficiency, the facility will accommodate Amgen's research programs in oncology, inflammation, and cardiometabolic diseases.

Thomas Jefferson University Plans Biomedical Research Center

Thomas Jefferson University is planning to build the $325 million Caroline Kimmel Biomedical Research Center in Philadelphia. Accommodating 56 NIH-funded investigators and their teams, the 12-story, 220,000-sf facility will enable the discovery of innovative treatments for cancer and other diseases. The project is designed to create a new research corridor and includes construction of a bridge to the adjacent Bluemle Life Sciences Building to foster connections with faculty and clinicians at the Sidney Kimmel Cancer Center.

Assumption University Constructs Health Sciences Building

Assumption University is constructing a $13 million health sciences building in Worcester, Mass. Designed by Nault Architects, the 41,000-sf facility will accommodate undergraduate programs in nursing and physician assistant studies, as well as providing students of all academic disciplines with welcoming study spaces, meeting rooms, and collaboration areas.

US Navy Breaks Ground on Cyber Warfare Engineering Laboratory

The US Navy broke ground on the Cyber Warfare Engineering Laboratory in December of 2019 in Dahlgren, Va. The 10,000-sf facility will provide classified research space for the development, testing, and analysis of hardware and software systems for military weapon systems. Designed as a consolidated hub for the Naval Surface Warfare Center Dahlgren Division's cyber engineering operations, the project will enable the creation of resilient network platforms and infrastructure, as well as accommodating interactive personnel training and evaluation.

Golden West College opened the $57 million Math and Science Building in December of 2019 in Huntington Beach, Calif. Designed by HMC Architects to promote innovation and invention, the collaborative 120,516-sf facility houses a STEM center, 18 wet and dry science labs, lecture spaces, classrooms, group study areas, and faculty offices. Offering engaging environments for hands-on learning, the three-story structure provides multifunctional spaces that encourage investigating, exploring, making, and communicating.
