Wayne State University School of Medicine Plans Psychiatry Building
The Wayne State University School of Medicine is planning to build a 62,840-sf facility in Detroit for its Department of Psychiatry. Consolidating three existing facilities, the five-story building will provide clinical, academic, and research space. Completion is expected in late 2012. The project developer is Queen Lillian LLC.
Anne Arundel Medical Center Attains LEED Gold
Anne Arundel Medical Center was awarded LEED Gold sustainable design certification in November of 2011. Located in Annapolis, Md., the seven-story facility uses 33 percent less water and 18 to 20 percent less energy than a conventional hospital. The project features a 16,700-sf living roof, an advanced HVAC system, and LED lighting.
University of Wales in Newport Attains BREAAM Excellent
The University of Wales, Newport has attained BREAAM Excellent for the first phase of redevelopment of its city center campus. Designed by BDP Architects and built by Willmott Dixon, the £35 million building houses the University's Faculty of Arts and Business and includes a contemporary arts center, extensive exhibition space, and a national photographic archive.
Los Angeles Biomedical Research Institute Plans Torrance Campus
The Los Angeles Biomedical Research Institute at Harbor-UCLA Medical Center is planning to build a 10-acre research park in Torrance, Calif. The project team includes ZGF Architects and general contractor Webcor Builders. The research park represents a public-private partnership with the County of Los Angeles.
RNL Bio Opens Stem Cell Center
RNL Bio opened a 41,600-sf stem cell medical center in Beijing in November of 2011. Located in the Yanda International Medical Research Institute, the GMP facility will provide stem cell storage for up to 20,000 patients. RNL Bio is based in South Korea.
