Loyalist College Opens Sustainable Skills, Technology and Life Sciences Centre
Loyalist College opened the $16.6 million Sustainable Skills, Technology and Life Sciences Centre in June of 2011 in Belleville, Ontario. The project comprises a 45,000-sf technology and trades training facility and 69,000 sf of new flexible space connected to existing facilities. The sustainably designed center will house the Schools of Architecture and Building Sciences, the School of Biosciences, and the School of Skills Training.
Augusta-Richmond County Judicial Center Opens
The new Augusta-Richmond County Judicial Center and John H. Ruffin Jr. Courthouse was dedicated on May 18 in Augusta, Ga. Heery International served as Augusta-Richmond County’s Capital Improvements Program Manager for the $62 million, 183,000-sf facility that houses eight courtrooms, nine hearing rooms, grand jury room, judges’ chambers, and offices for the district attorney, solicitor general, and clerk of courts. The four-story structure was designed by Turner Associates.
Queen's University School of Medicine Completes Instructional Facility
Queen's University School of Medicine completed its $78.6 million instructional facility in June of 2011. Located in Kingston, Ontario, the 125,508-sf project provides two 125-seat lecture halls, 28 meeting rooms, a 20-room clinical education center, a video conferencing suite, a 2,600-sf surgical skills and simulation suite, and science laboratories. The four-story facility will support the new patient-focused Foundations Curriculum. Occupancy is expected in September of 2011.
Lonza Expands Singapore Biomanufacturing Campus
Lonza will expand its Singapore biomanufacturing campus in the Tuas Biomedical Park with the addition of 21,528 sf of laboratory space. The $11.3 million expansion will support cell line development, processing, and analytical services. Completion is expected in 2012. Lonza is a life sciences company based in Switzerland.
Carle Hospital Builds Heart and Vascular Institute
Carle Foundation Hospital began building the 375,350-sf Heart and Vascular Institute in June of 2011. Located in Urbana, Ill., the $220 million facility will provide a modern, comfortable environment for patients and their families. Designed by Shepley Bulfinch with Pepper Construction as general contractor, the project will replace beds currently located in buildings constructed in the 1960s and 1970s. Site preparation work for the project began in March. The building is scheduled for completion in 2013.
