The Broad Institute Plans Cambridge Facility

The Broad Institute is planning to construct a second facility in Cambridge, Mass. The 250,000-sf project will provide research and administrative space and will connect to the Institute's existing building on six stories to maximize collaboration. Construction will begin in early 2012 with completion expected in 2014.

University of Illinois Opens CABER Bioprocessing Lab

The University of Illinois's Center for Advanced BioEnergy Research (CABER) opened its newly renovated Bioprocessing Laboratory in June of 2011 in Urbana. The 2,500-sf facility will support biofuel and biochemical research, development, and production. Future plans include the addition of biomass processing equipment.

Joe DiMaggio Children's Hospital Reaches Completion

Joe DiMaggio Children's Hospital was completed in June of 2011 in Hollywood, Fla. Ground was broken on the four-story, 170,000-sf facility in October of 2009. LEED Gold sustainable design certification will be sought for the $130 million tower, which provides 48 patient rooms, a pediatric cancer center, medical/surgical space, and a gastrointestinal procedures suite. The facility was built by ANF Group.

Princeton University's High-Performance Research Computing Center Nears Completion

Princeton University's High-Performance Research Computing Center will open in September of 2011. Located on the Forrestal Campus in Plainsboro, N.J., the two-story, 46,765-sf building will include a computing area, mechanical and electrical support, and office space. The facility will house the Terrascale Infrastructure for Groundbreaking Research in Engineering and Science (TIGRESS) Center.

University of Queensland Builds Oral Health Centre

The University of Queensland began construction in June of 2011 on the $120 million Oral Health Centre in Herston. The facility will house innovative teaching and learning spaces, dental clinics, research laboratories, imaging suites, operating rooms, and offices. The project was designed by Cox Rayner Architects with Lend Lease as construction manager. Completion is expected in late 2012.
