Naval Undersea Warfare Center Opens Maritime Subsurface Sensor Operations Laboratory
The Naval Undersea Warfare Center opened the $11 million Maritime Subsurface Sensor Operations Laboratory in August of 2011. Construction began on the single-story, 40,000-sf facility in July of 2009. The secure laboratory provides space for the testing, maintenance, and refurbishment of sonar arrays.
SHI International Opens Cloud Computing Data Center and World Headquarters
SHI International opened its 420,000-sf cloud computing data center and world headquarters in July of 2011. The facility is located in Somerset, N.J., in an existing building that underwent extensive renovations.
USAMRIID Opens BSL-4 Labs at Fort Detrick
The U.S. Army Medical Research Institute of Infectious Diseases (USAMRIID) opened its newly renovated BSL-4 laboratories in August of 2011 at Fort Detrick in Frederick, Md. Construction began on the project in 2007 with completion in spring of 2011. The facility includes a medical incinerator and contains animal housing for rodents and primates. The renovation supports improved safety and security protocols to promote accountability for samples of select agents and pathogens.
Novo Nordisk Creates Plainsboro Headquarters
Novo Nordisk will invest $215 million to create its new U.S. headquarters in an existing 770,000-sf facility in Plainsboro, N.J. The building is located in the Princeton Forrestal Center and will house approximately 1,500 employees. Construction will begin in September of 2011 with occupancy expected in spring of 2013. The project team includes architect of record HOK, exterior design architect Granum A/I, and developers LCOR, Ivy Equities, and Intercontinental Real Estate Corp.
Tarrant County College Opens Fort Worth Campus
Tarrant County College opened the $185 million Trinity River East Campus in August of 2011 in Fort Worth, Texas. The 148,000-sf facility features a sunken plaza with a waterway sited below street level, providing students with access to downtown amenities without crossing surface streets. Designed by Bing Thom Architects of Vancouver, B.C., the Trinity River East Campus provides classrooms, simulation suites, and a 110-seat auditorium for health science education and training.
