Anne Arundel Medical Center Opens Hospital Pavilion

Anne Arundel Medical Center (AAMC) opened its new Hospital Pavilion in April of 2011. The six-story facility represents the completion of a six-year, $424 million expansion of AAMC’s Annapolis campus. The Hospital Pavilion tower includes an emergency department with a dedicated pediatric unit, 50 private patient rooms, and eight surgical suites. LEED Silver sustainable design certification will be sought for the facility.

Indiana University Breaks Ground on Jacobs School of Music Expansion

Indiana University broke ground on the $44 million Jacobs School of Music Faculty Studio Building in Bloomington in April of 2011. Designed by Flad Architects with Browning Day Mullins Dierdorf as architect of record, the 85,000-sf (99,500-gsf) expansion will provide 84 teaching studios, 15 classrooms, practice rooms, administrative offices, and rehearsal rooms.

Stamford Hospital Plans Redevelopment

Stamford Hospital is planning a $575 million redevelopment and replacement of its existing campus in Stamford, Conn. The three-phase project is expected to reach completion within 10 to 15 years. The $325 million first phase includes construction of the 11-story Specialty Healthcare Building and Emergency Department. The facility will include surgical suites, an intensive care unit, and a heart and vascular institute. Groundbreaking is expected by early 2013. LEED sustainable design certification will be sought for the project.

Rolls-Royce Plans UK Manufacturing Facilities

Rolls-Royce is planning to build two manufacturing facilities in Rotherham in the United Kingdom. The 150,000-sf Advanced Blade Casting Facility will produce jet engine turbine blades. The 209,000-sf Project PoWer factory will make vessels for nuclear reactors. Construction could begin in 2012.

Ryerson University Plans Student Learning Centre

Ryerson University will begin building the $112 million Student Learning Centre in Toronto in January of 2012. Designed by Snøhetta Architects and the Zeidler Partnership, the seven-story transparent glass structure will provide open environments for group learning. Connecting to Ryerson’s adjacent library, the building will include ground-level retail and 2,000 study spaces. Completion is expected in 2015.
