Dudley College Builds Evolve Facility
Dudley College initiated construction on the $48.5 million Evolve building in March of 2011 in Dudley, United Kingdom. The four-story, 88,200-sf facility will include a performance auditorium, a sports hall, a gym, and dance studios. Dudley College is also planning to begin building the Construction and Engineering Technologies Centre in 2015.
St. Francis Hospital and Medical Center Opens O'Connell Tower
St. Francis Hospital and Medical Center dedicated the $184 million John T. O’Connell Tower in February of 2011 in Hartford, Conn. Ground was broken on the 10-story, 318,000-sf project in early 2008. The tower features an expanded emergency department with 70 treatment areas, 72 private inpatient rooms, 19 operating rooms, six dedicated orthopedic operating rooms, and 63 orthopedic beds for the Connecticut Joint Replacement Institute. The facility includes a 60-seat auditorium and two hybrid operating rooms with integrated imaging and communication technology.
AgResearch Opens Ruminant Methane Measurement Centre
AgResearch opened the Ruminant Methane Measurement Centre is March of 2010 in Palmerston North, New Zealand. The expanded facility features 24 sheep preparedness chambers, sheep gas measurement units, and four cattle measurement crates. The building is air conditioned for optimal animal welfare with doors that will automatically open in the event of carbon dioxide buildup or power failure. The facility will enable researchers to study genetic factors for greenhouse gas production in ruminants. The center can house up to 150 sheep.
Samsung Plans Seoul Biologics Facility
Samsung is planning to build a biologics manufacturing facility near Seoul in Korea. The project reflects a $266 million partnership with Quintiles to produce biosimilar versions of successful pharmaceutical treatments. Production is expected to begin in the new facility in late 2012.
United Therapeutics Expands in Research Triangle Park
Pharmaceutical manufacturer United Therapeutics is planning to build a 177,000-sf facility on its existing campus in Research Triangle Park, N.C. The addition will provide manufacturing, packaging, labeling, and warehouse space. Construction could begin in mid-2011 with completion slated for 2012. A 173,635-sf parking deck will be constructed adjacent to the facility.
