Augustana College Plans Gilbert Science Center Renovation
Augustana College is planning an expansion and renovation of Gilbert Science Center in Sioux Falls, S.D. The two-phase project includes construction of a $30 million addition housing teaching and research labs and a nursing education wing. The second phase consists of a $30 million renovation to create classrooms and faculty offices. LEED sustainable design certification will be sought for the project.
University Hospitals Case Medical Center Builds Cancer Facility
University Hospitals Case Medical Center is building the 375,000-sf Cancer Hospital in Cleveland. Ground was broken for the $250 million project in August of 2007 with occupancy expected in spring of 2011. The free-standing facility will consolidate cancer services (including diagnosis, treatment, surgery, oncology care, and radiation therapy) in a single location. The Cancer Hospital will provide 120 inpatient beds.
South Australian Health and Medical Research Facility Breaks Ground in Adelaide
Ground was broken in March of 2010 on the $200 million South Australian Health and Medical Research Facility in Adelaide. Designed by Woods Bagot with RFD (Research Facilities Design) as laboratory design consultant, the 280,000-gsf translational research facility will include 135,000 nsf of laboratory space, a molecular imaging therapy unit, a cyclotron, an imaging suite, and an animal facility.
Clemson University Breaks Ground on Advanced Materials Innovation Center
Clemson University broke ground in March of 2010 on an advanced materials innovation center in Clemson, S.C. Created in partnership with the South Carolina Research Authority, the 43,000-sf project will provide Clemson with 25,000 sf of business incubator space. The architect of record for the facility is Goodwyn Mills and Cawood with Harper Corporation of Greenville as design/build contractor. The project will house 18,000 sf of secure research laboratories as well as collaboration space.
Florida Hospital Plans Nicholson Center for Surgical Advancement
Florida Hospital will begin construction in early summer of 2010 on the $35 million Nicholson Center for Surgical Advancement in Celebration, Fla. The 50,000-sf project will provide training and simulation suites for robotic surgery.
