University Hospital Galway Builds Clinical Research Facility
University Hospital Galway is planning to construct the €7.5m Clinical Research Facility in Galway, Ireland. Construction will begin on the 5,000-sm project in spring of 2010. Housing 20 researchers, the facility will support translational research in partnership with pharmaceutical and biomedical device companies.
University of Central Arkansas Dedicates College of Business
The University of Central Arkansas dedicated the $16 million College of Business in Little Rock in February of 2010. Construction began on the 78,456-sf building in May of 2008. The technology-rich facility houses a 168-seat auditorium, classrooms, computer labs, conference rooms, offices, and team study rooms.
University of British Columbia Builds Centre for Interactive Research on Sustainability
The University of British Columbia is constructing the $37 million Centre for Interactive Research on Sustainability (CIRS) in Vancouver. Designed by Perkins + Will, the facility is designed to transcend carbon neutrality by acting as a net energy producer and a greenhouse gas-positive building. Slated for completion in summer of 2011, the project will function as a living laboratory for sustainable design, construction, and operation.
Fort Lewis College Opens Biology Wing
Fort Lewis College opened its $17.9 million biology wing in February of 2010 in Durango, Colo. Built as an expansion of Berndt Hall, the three-story project includes laboratories and faculty offices. LEED Silver sustainable design certification will be sought for the 34,000-sf project.
Edmonton Clinic Builds Integrated Research and Healthcare Facility
The Edmonton Clinic’s $909 million Integrated Research and Healthcare facility is slated for completion in September of 2011. Designed to integrate healthcare, research, and education, the 106,000-sm project will feature a simulation suite for medical training, an outpatient clinic, and 140 inpatient beds. Construction began on the two-building complex in 2007. The Integrated Research and Healthcare Facility is a partnership of the University of Edmonton and Alberta's Capital Health.
