The Clinical Cell and Vaccine Production Facility (CVPF) at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania is designed to facilitate a bench-to-bedside approach, where the clinical materials to treat disease are manufactured and administered within the hospital using cells from the patient’s own body. The project has achieved international recognition for its unique potential for optimizing patient care and for its success treating human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) and cancer.

The three-story, 183,000-sf “@4240” building—originally constructed in 1948 as a telephone handset factory—provides flexible tenant solutions, including customized labs for both large- and small-molecule research; dry labs for electronic, medical device, or software research; and modern office space.

The Translational Research Institute for Metabolism and Diabetes (TRI) is a unique stand-alone hospital-like facility that offers rare proof that facility design can accelerate the time it takes to go from new lab discovery to patient treatment. Utilizing a core-based model that includes imaging, pharmacy, kitchen, and lab cores in one location, the facility focuses on fast-tracking functional treatments for diabetes and obesity.
