U.S. Department of the Treasury Releases New Guidance on Paycheck Protection Program Loans for Small Businesses

New guidance has been released by the U.S. Department of the Treasury which makes Paycheck Protection Program loans available to companies with 500 or fewer employees, as well as to firms that fall below the size standards set by the Small Business Administration. Construction companies, whose status is generally determined by average annual income threshold and not by number of employees, will benefit from this amendment to the previous announcement, which required a business to meet both criteria to be eligible.

Fujifilm Diosynth Biotechnologies Constructs Billingham Campus

Fujifilm Diosynth Biotechnologies began construction in March of 2020 on a $14.5 million campus in Billingham in the United Kingdom. Designed by Ryder Architecture, the project will support the creation of innovative biologic, vaccine, and gene therapy products. Accommodating approximately 300 employees, the campus will feature a 42,000-sf office building with an inviting welcome center. Completion is expected in March of 2021. Additional R&D laboratories and manufacturing facilities will be delivered in a subsequent phase of development.

Construction Begins on Hewlett Packard Enterprise Campus

Construction began in February of 2020 on a 440,000-sf complex for Hewlett Packard Enterprise in Spring, Texas. Developed by a joint venture of Patrinely Group, USAA Real Estate, and CDC Houston, the collaborative campus will include two five-story structures with bridge connectors on each level. The facility will provide core research and development labs, a conference center, offices, a 2,055-space parking garage, a fitness hub, dining amenities, a pharmacy, and a large central courtyard with a multipurpose sports pavilion.

Fexco Opens Killorglin R&D Center

Fexco opened a $23 million R&D center in January of 2020 in Killorglin, Ireland. Supported by $3.9 million in funding from Enterprise Ireland, the project involved the redevelopment of a former manufacturing site to create a collaborative nexus for entrepreneurship and economic development. The 57,000-sf building strategically collocates the company's 37,000-sf Research Development and Innovation Centre with the not-for-profit RDI Hub, a 20,000-sf facility enabling the establishment and scale-up of startup companies.

VEGA Constructs Headquarters and Advanced Manufacturing Complex

VEGA, a global manufacturer of process measurement technologies, will begin construction in early 2020 on a $50 million headquarters complex in Mason, Ohio. Sited on 50 acres, the 230,000-sf campus will include advanced manufacturing and production facilities, corporate offices, and a state-of-the-art business and training center. The project team includes BHDP Architecture and construction manager Messer Construction. Occupancy is expected in 2021.
