Triangle Brick Constructs Wadesboro Plant

Durham-based Triangle Brick Co. is constructing a 300,000-sf manufacturing plant in Wadesboro, N.C. The $35-million facility will accommodate 50 employees and will bring the company’s manufacturing capacity to 500 million standard brick units. The facility is sited next to an existing Triangle Brick plant.

Kellogg USA Builds Tracy Distribution Center

Kellogg USA is developing a 750,000-sf distribution center in the Tracy Logistics Center in Tracy, Calif. Sited on 35 acres, the concrete tilt-up project will include 8,000 sf of office and is slated for completion in April. The project contractor is Oltmans Construction Co. of Whittier, Calif. The 150-acre Tracy Logistics Center was built by developer Pattillo Properties of Atlanta.

Aimet Technologies Relocates to Zebulon

Plastics molding company Aimet Technologies will relocate from 26,600 sf in Raleigh to a new 70,400-sf facility in Zebulon, N.C. in fall of 2004. Sited on six acres in Legacy Park, the building is located near the Eastern North Carolina Plastics Technology Center which provides employee training for the plastics industry.

NCSU Plans Biomanufacturing Test Facility

North Carolina Sate University is planning a 91,000-sf biomanufacturing test facility that will simulate a good-manufacturing-practices environment at its Raleigh campus. The $36-million facility, funded by a Golden Leaf grant, will provide workforce training for the biomanufacturing industry.

Toto U.S.A. Holdings Occupies Southpark Warehouse

Toto U.S.A. Holdings will occupy 436,400 sf of warehouse space in a facility developed by M.D. Hodges Enterprises in Atlanta’s Southpark. The facility is slated for completion in January 2004. Japan-based Toto U.S.A., a manufacturer of bathroom fixtures, will consolidate its East Coast distribution network in Southpark.

Tasus Corp, a supplier to Toyota Motor Corp., will construct a $13.3 million, 100,000-sf plastic injection-molding plant on 23 acres in Georgetown, Texas. Construction is expected to begin in early 2003 and reach completion in late 2004.

Mary Kay Occupies Gwinnett County Warehouse

Cosmetics manufacturer Mary Kay will occupy a 135,000-sf build-to-suit facility sited on 17 acres in the Shawnee Ridge business park in Gwinnett County, Ga. The warehouse will replace Mary Kay’s current 70,000-sf distribution warehouse in Duluth. The new facility is expected to reach completion in September 2004.

Celestica Expands in Raleigh

Celestica has relocated within the city of Raleigh from 26,000 sf to 70,000 sf at the Globe Center Corporate Park. Celestica, a manufacturer of products for technology companies on an outsource basis, will house operations including printed circuit assembly, systems assembly, engineering design, and sales in the facility. The relocation project entailed a $2-million investment.

Simmons Opens Three Manufacturing Plants

Bedding manufacturer Simmons Co. will open three manufacturing plants ranging in size from 150,000-sf to 215,000-sf. The Sumner, Wa. plant will employ 140 workers when it opens in November 2003. Plants in Hazelton, Pa. and South Georgia will employ 225 workers each and are expected to open in May 2004. The facilities will reflect the company's upgraded operations, including a "zero waste" initiative.

Maxtor Corp. Expands in Fremont

MMC Technology, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Milpitas-based Maxtor Corp., will expand its disk-drive media manufacturing operations with the lease of 183,000-sf in Fremont, Calif. Housing 65,000 sf of cleanrooms, the facility will be occupied in addition to MMC's 140,000-sf location in San Jose.
