Schweitzer Engineering Laboratory (SEL) opened a $20 million R&D facility in February of 2020 in West Lafayette, Ind. Located in Purdue University's Discovery Park District, the three-story, 100,000-sf building offers leading-edge laboratory and support space for electric power research, development, and manufacturing. Strategically sited to promote academic and industry partnerships, the structure establishes SEL as the anchor tenant for the 450-acre campus, a $1 billion work-live-play district offering corporate, research, residential, and conference facilities. Ground was broken on the project in September of 2018. Saab is also planning to construct a plant for the manufacture of airplane fuselages at Discovery Park.
