Moderna is partnering with Alexandria Real Estate Equities to create a 462,000-rsf headquarters and research facility at the Alexandria Center development at One Kendall Square. Accelerating the discovery and development of mRNA vaccines and therapeutics, the collaborative structure will feature leading-edge R&D labs, sophisticated offices, and engaging gathering spaces. Designed by NBBJ to be the most sustainable research building in Cambridge, the innovative project will leverage geothermal heating technologies, a high-performance envelope, and advanced mechanical systems to achieve LEED Platinum Core & Shell, LEED Zero Energy, and Fitwel certifications. Construction is already underway on the highly resilient facility, which will proactively address climate risk by incorporating flood mitigation measures. The state-of-the-art biopharmaceutical center is being built by John Moriarty & Associates with JLL acting as leasing agent. Completion is expected in 2023.
