Amgen - Gateway of Pacific R&D Center

Amgen opened a 245,000-sf R&D center in South San Francisco in October of 2022. Located on the Gateway of Pacific life sciences campus in Oyster Point, the leased facility was designed by Flad Architects and developed by BioMed Realty. Featuring modular wet and molecular labs, the nine-story tower accommodates Amgen's research programs in oncology, inflammation, and cardiometabolic diseases. Flexible floor plates integrate lab and office functions, with open work spaces and movable furnishings promoting collaboration and interaction. Housing 650 staff members, the glass-clad structure includes state-of-the-art conference and meeting rooms, dining amenities, and a fitness hub.

Having achieved both LEED and Fitwel certification, the sustainably designed facility is a pilot site for the MyGreenLab initiative and is also pursuing TRUE (zero waste) and WELL certification. The technology-rich building was constructed by Hathaway Dinwiddie with Nova Partners overseeing tenant improvements. BioMed Realty is the owner and manager of the project, which represents a capital investment of $158 million.
