Wexford Science+Technology broke ground in January of 2023 on the 300,000-sf Howard R. Levine Center for Education in Charlotte. Designed by Ayers Saint Gross, the project will provide Wake Forest University’s School of Medicine with world-class teaching labs, active learning classrooms, and areas for formal and informal collaboration. The vibrant facility will also accommodate Atrium Health's Carolinas College of Health Sciences and space for Wake Forest's business and professional studies programs. Occupancy is expected in 2025.

With a profusion of external and internal glazing, the highly transparent structure will anchor a mixed-use innovation district called The Pearl. Upon completion, the 40-acre campus will include a 331,000-sf research building, venues for STEM education, and the North American headquarters of IRCAD, a surgical training organization based in France. A central plaza will promote academic, corporate, and community engagement, complemented by residential apartments, a hotel, and a range of retail amenities. The master planning team included civil engineer Kimley-Horn and architectural firm Neighboring Concepts.
