Sutter Health is constructing the Sutter Advanced Neuroscience Complex at the CPMC Mission Bernal Campus in San Francisco to transform medical outcomes throughout the region. Designed by SmithGroup, the $442 million facility will house a full spectrum of services including neurology, neurosurgery, diagnostic imaging, infusion therapy, lab and phlebotomy capabilities, and rehabilitation, as well as an onsite ambulatory surgery center. Patients will benefit from the implementation of the latest technologies and direct access to novel research and clinical trials.
Ensuring the seamless provision of integrated care, the 129,000-sf building will bring together approximately 80 physicians and clinicians across a range of neurological specialties, such as Alzheimer’s disease and dementia, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), epilepsy, neuro-oncology, and movement disorders. The five-story structure will also support the relocation of the Ray Dolby Brain Health Center and the Forbes Norris MDA/ALS Research and Treatment Center to expand capacity and promote deeper collaboration between experts.
The Boldt Company is the general contractor for the development. Other associated firms include Degenkolb Engineers, Southland Industries, OneEQ (an HBS Company), Rosendin, and Performance Contracting, Inc. Ground was broken in June of 2025 and occupancy is slated for 2028. Sutter Health is also planning to add two intervention suites to the adjacent hospital at the CPMC Mission Bernal Campus by 2027, which will offer advanced imaging and enable rapid detection and minimally invasive treatment of life-threatening neurological conditions.
