Pioneer Hi-Bred Builds Hermiston Facility
Pioneer Hi-Bred will begin construction in April of 2010 on a new research facility in Hermiston, Ore. The project will enable Pioneer to expand its agricultural R&D operations with a focus on the creation of corn hybrid products. Pioneer Hi-Bred is a DuPont business based in Des Moines, Iowa.
UC San Diego Health System Plans Jacobs Medical Center
UC San Diego Health System will begin construction in early 2012 on the 490,000-sf Jacobs Medical Center in La Jolla. The ten-story facility will provide 245 inpatient beds and will house the Hospital for Women and Children, the Cancer Hospital, and the Hospital for Advanced Surgery. Completion is expected in June of 2016. Designed to promote translational research, the $664 million facility will support interdisciplinary medical education and training.
Vivo Bio Tech Plans Animal Research Facilities
Vivo Bio Tech will construct a RM450 million animal research laboratory complex in Malaysia. Located in Alur Gajah, Malacca, the project will provide three laboratories for research on small animals, canines, and primates. The integrated complex will also provide development, testing, and manufacturing facilities. The project will be created in partnership with Malacca Biotech Holdings and Vanguard Creative Technologies.
Jordan Builds Nuclear Research Complex
The Kingdom of Jordan is partnering with Korean Atomic Energy Research Institute (KAERI) and Daewoo Engineering and Construction to build a nuclear research complex in Irbid. The facility will include a 5-megawatt reactor, a radioactive isotope manufacturing facility, and a nuclear training center. The $130 million complex will be located at Jordan University for Science and Technology and is slated for completion in 2014.
Isis Pharmaceuticals Expands in Carlsbad
Isis Pharmaceuticals is expanding its operations in Carlsbad, Calif., with the lease of an additional 176,000-sf research facility. The building will be constructed by BioMed Realty Trust. The research facility will enable Isis to consolidate the majority of its drug discovery, development, and manufacturing operations in a single location.
