Towson University Designs College of Health Professions

Towson University is planning to construct a $166 million facility for the College of Health Professions in Towson, Md. Collocating the college's undergraduate and graduate departments in a single integrated structure, the 229,000-sf facility will accommodate programs in nursing, health sciences, occupational therapy, occupational science, speech-language pathology, and audiology. The collaborative project is being designed by Perkins+Will and JMT Architecture.

Miami Dade College Opens Center for Learning, Innovation and Simulation

Miami Dade College opened the $56 million Center for Learning, Innovation and Simulation in September of 2019 in Miami. Designed by Kahler Slater and Harvard Jolly Architecture, the 132,000-sf facility features a simulation hospital with 15 patient rooms utilizing sophisticated mannequins for medical training. The five-story building also offers a CAVE virtual reality chamber, ten examination rooms, a home health apartment, an ambulance simulation suite, a physical therapy room, wet labs, and four student lounges.

Indiana State University Opens College of Health and Human Services

Indiana State University opened the College of Health and Human Services in August of 2019 in Terre Haute, Ind. Collocating programs in nursing, social work, applied health science, and kinesiology and sports medicine, the collaborative 185,000-sf complex offers leading-edge facilities for education, training, and research. The first phase of the project was completed in 2018 and included construction of a four-story, 85,000-sf addition housing classrooms and offices.

St. Louis Community College Opens Center for Nursing and Health Sciences

St. Louis Community College opened the $39 million Center for Nursing & Health Sciences in August of 2019 in St. Louis. Designed by KAI Design & Build, the four-story, 96,000-sf facility offers teaching labs, classrooms, flexible learning spaces, and a dental clinic. Accommodating 11 health programs, the center will serve approximately 900 students and is expected to attain LEED Gold sustainable design certification.

Creighton University Begins Construction on Health Sciences Campus

Creighton University began construction in July of 2019 on a $100 million health sciences campus in midtown Phoenix. Located at Park Central, the 180,000-sf facility will accommodate programs in medicine, nursing, pharmacy, physician assistance, emergency services, and occupational and physical therapy. The project team includes architect Butler Design Group, general contractor Okland Construction, and developer Plaza Companies.

Drexel University and Tower Health broke ground in June of 2019 on the 150,000-sf Drexel University College of Medicine at Tower Health in Wyomissing, Pa. The four-year regional campus will offer advanced simulation training suites, traditional classrooms, flexible learning environments, lecture halls, anatomy labs, and an information commons. Designed by The S/L/A/M Collaborative, the facility will support optimal student health and wellbeing with a fitness center, indoor and outdoor recreation areas, lounges, a game room, and a café.

Midwestern State University Builds Health Sciences Center

Midwestern State University is building the $40 million Centennial Hall in Wichita Falls, Texas. Housing the Gunn College of Health Sciences and Human Services, the four-story, 87,000-sf building will feature an 80-person round classroom, a learning stair, a collaborative student lounge, and a full-height atrium. The center will provide simulation training suites, classrooms, and teaching labs for programs in nursing, dental hygiene, radiologic sciences, respiratory care, and social work.

Boston University Expands and Renovates School of Dental Medicine

Boston University is engaged in a $112 million renovation and expansion of the Goldman School of Dental Medicine. Designed by SmithGroup, the project includes renovation of 53,100 sf of existing space and construction of a seven-story, 41,900-sf addition to provide a 140-seat auditorium, student collaboration areas, classrooms, teaching labs, offices, and clinical space. A new façade will bring natural light into the flexible facility, which will include a café and lounges for students and residents.

Arizona State University and Wexford Science+Technology Break Ground on Phoenix Research Building

Arizona State University and Wexford Science+Technology broke ground in March of 2019 on a $77 million research building on the Phoenix Biomedical Campus. The public-private project will be owned by Wexford and is being created in partnership with Ventas and the city of Phoenix. Half of the seven-story, 225,000-sf facility will house research labs for ASU's Biodesign Institute, the College of Health Solutions, and the College of Nursing and Health Innovation.
