SUNY Upstate Medical Center began construction in June of 2015 on the second phase of the Central New York Biotech Accelerator (CNYBAC) in Syracuse, N.Y. Designed by The S/L/A/M Collaborative, the project includes the build out of the second and third floors of the facility to house the Upstate Medical Innovation and Novel Discovery Center (MIND) and the Molecular Pathology Next Generation Sequencing Lab. The new Upstate MIND Center will provide the tenants of CNYBAC with a 70-seat theater, business incubator space, conference facilities, and collaborative technology suites to support translational research. The Molecular Pathology Next Generation Sequencing Lab will be an advanced core facility for genetic testing that will embrace new provider models and technologies to increase clinical effectiveness. Fostering the development of precision medicine (PM), the patient-centric project will implement education and coordinated care services to optimize informed medical decisions. The general contractor is Murnane Building Contractors and LEED Silver sustainable design certification will be sought for the facility. Completion is expected in December of 2015 with occupancy in spring of 2016.
