Carilion Clinic and Virginia Tech Construct Biomedical Research Expansion

Carilion Clinic is partnering with Virginia Tech on the construction of a $90 million research and teaching facility in Roanoke. Designed by AECOM, the 139,000-sf Virginia Tech Carilion Biomedical Research Expansion will provide collaborative, technology-rich laboratories and experiential learning areas. Located on the VTC Health Sciences and Technology Campus adjacent to the existing Virginia Tech Carilion Research Institute, the project will support research in areas including immunology, metabolic disorders, cardiovascular conditions, biomaterials, and body device interfaces. Ground was broken on the project in October of 2017 and occupancy is expected in spring of 2020.
