St. Petersburg, Fla.

Johns Hopkins Medicine opened the $95 million All Children's Education and Research Facility in September of 2018 in St. Petersburg, Fla. Designed by HDR, the 225,000-sf project provides advanced simulation training suites, research labs, instructional spaces, administrative offices, a biorepository, and a 400-seat auditorium. Featuring forum-style staircases to promote interaction, the building houses the Cancer & Blood Disorders Institute, the Heart Institute, the Institute for Brain Protection Sciences, and the Maternal, Fetal and Neonatal Institute. A collaborative core runs horizontally and vertically through the building, with each floor offering a unique combination of working and educational environments. Critical mechanical systems are located on the second level to ensure continued operations in the event of a major storm. The sustainably designed facility was built by Skanska USA Building at a cost of $63 million, with construction commencing in March of 2016. The project manager was CBRE.
