The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston opened a $15 million facility for the School of Biomedical Informatics in December of 2018. Located in the Texas Medical Center, the two-story, 44,709-sf project is the first freestanding school of biomedical informatics in the United States and was constructed on top of an existing parking garage. Housing over 100 faculty members and 300 graduate students, the collaborative facility provides an innovation lab, an open office with 230 workstations, a media lab, a café, and flexible classrooms that can be converted into an auditorium to accommodate conferences and events. The multi-phase project was delivered under budget and ahead of schedule.
