Michigan Tech opened the H-STEM Engineering and Health Technologies Complex in Houghton in March of 2024. HED designed the collaborative facility to drive academic excellence in health-related fields and accelerate the creation of human-centered technological innovations. Positioned in the heart of campus, the development collocates researchers in materials science, engineering, and neuroscience with faculty from kinesiology and integrative physiology. The $52 million project included the renovation of learning spaces in the Chemical Sciences and Engineering Building and the construction of a 63,000-sf addition housing shared and flexible laboratories.

Illuminated by natural light, the facility also offers conference rooms, academic offices, graduate student workspaces, and three teaching labs. The sustainable project is on track for LEED Gold certification and features a robust HVAC system with advanced heat recovery. Granger was the construction manager at risk for the project, which project ground in May of 2022.
