The Ohio State University opened the Multispecies Animal Learning Center (MALC) and a new dairy in Columbus in January of 2026. The $60 million complex was designed by Wellogy as an integrated hub for teaching and research that enables the next generation of animal sciences education. Spanning 100,000 sf, MALC provides the College of Food, Agricultural, and Environmental Sciences with leading-edge classrooms and demonstration areas where students participate in a dynamic pedagogy of experiential engagement. Flexible wet labs will accelerate the discovery of new solutions for animal health, complemented by separate biosecure barns for ruminants, swine, horses, and poultry.

A modern dairy showcases innovative technologies such as robotic milking equipment and automated manure systems. Together, the learning center and dairy offer more than 150,000 sf of space and will house approximately 2,200 animals when fully populated. Featuring an arena, interactive exhibits, and space for K-12 programs, this vibrant destination is expected to welcome between 70,000 and 100,000 visitors each year.

Located on the campus of the Waterman Agricultural and Natural Resources Laboratory, the complex will foster collaboration with industry partners and strengthen workforce development pathways for a wide range of related careers. CK Construction broke ground in January of 2024 on the project, which included the installation of new site utilities and the replacement of aging infrastructure for animal waste processing and stormwater management.
