The University of Missouri-Kansas City (UMKC) is constructing the $145 million Healthcare Delivery & Innovation Building to provide leading-edge environments for immersive learning, training, and discovery. Shaped by the architectural expertise of RDG Planning & Design and Clark & Enersen, the 160,000-sf facility will enable the next generation of medical professionals to gain hands-on experience in the delivery of team-based care.

The five-story structure will expand the School of Medicine's capacities with state-of-the-art simulation labs for clinical skills and surgery, as well as exam rooms. Pre-doctoral dental clinics and hygiene suites will allow the School of Dentistry to serve more patients in need through advanced equipment and greater efficiency. Accommodating acute dental programs such as oral surgery, endodontics, and emergency procedures, the building will also integrate a sophisticated dental design lab and space for radiology.

In the facility’s biomedical engineering laboratories, doctors, dentists, engineers, and students will work side by side to create new medical implants, imaging technologies, adhesives, and surgical tools. The collaborative hub will also house the Health Equity Institute and the Data Science and Analytics Innovation Center. Inclusive gathering areas will enhance interdisciplinary exchange throughout the structure.

Envisioned as a catalyst for growth in the UMKC Health Sciences District, the project is the largest in the university’s history and will drive impactful research partnerships. The development is being built by McCownGordon Construction with Leigh + O'Kane as structural engineer and Taliaferro & Browne as civil engineer. Ground was broken in September of 2024 and completion is anticipated in 2027.
