Wake Technical Community College is constructing the Perry Family Simulation Hospital in Raleigh, N.C. The three-story, 106,000-sf building will be one of the largest and most comprehensive simulation hospitals in the United States when it opens in fall of 2027. BSA designed the multidisciplinary facility to enable students to participate in hands-on learning in environments that mirror real-world clinical settings. Driving collaboration across a wide range of healthcare specialties, the student-focused complex will support programs in nursing, medical laboratory technology, radiography, emergency medical sciences, pharmacy technology, medical assisting, social and human services, and more.
Emphasizing visibility, intuitive wayfinding, and seamless movement, the state-of-the-art center will provide a patient check-in area, an emergency room, a nursing station, and an acuity-adaptable bed unit. The flexible and adaptable facility will also house an advanced imaging hub, operating rooms, and labs for diagnostic testing, microbiology, respiratory therapy, and neurodiagnostic technology. General-purpose classrooms, computer labs, and faculty offices will be accompanied by immersive reality venues, an anatomy and physiology suite, and a moulage prep room for the creation of mock injuries.
With a total budget of $121.1 million, the transformative project includes the backfill renovation of an existing space in an adjacent building, the construction of a four-story parking deck, and site improvements spanning eight acres. Brasfield & Gorrie is the general contractor for the resilient development, which was made possible by the Workforce Forward bond approved by voters in 2022. Located on the Perry Health Sciences Campus, this dynamic destination for workforce training was created in partnership with Wake County and WakeMed, a private, not-for-profit health system based in Raleigh.
