University of Kentucky Constructs Rankin Health Education Building

The University of Kentucky is constructing the $430 million Michael D. Rankin MD Health Education Building in Lexington to enhance community wellbeing by addressing provider shortages throughout the state. Expanding the university’s training capacity by up to 1,200 students, the 509,000-sf facility will strategically colocates programs in medicine, public health, nursing, and health sciences, as well as housing the Center for Interprofessional and Community Health Education.

Austin Peay State University opened the $70 million Health Professions Building in August of 2025 in Clarksville, Tenn. Ayers Saint Gross and HASTINGS designed the the 114,600-sf facility to strategically colocate the School of Nursing and the departments of Allied Health Sciences, Health and Human Performance, Social Work, and Psychological Science and Counseling.

Brown University Constructs Danoff Life Sciences Labs

Brown University is constructing the William A. and Ami Kuan Danoff Laboratories in Providence’s Jewelry District to support integrated life sciences research. The 300,000-sf facility was designed by TenBerke and Ballinger to catalyze innovation and the commercialization of impactful scientific and medical breakthroughs. The seven-story building will provide six levels of wet and dry laboratories and research cores for programs in biology, medicine, neuroscience, bioengineering, and public health.

Roanoke College Constructs McConnon Discovery Center

Roanoke College is constructing the Shaun McConnon Discovery Center in Salem, Va. Designed by VMDO Architects, the $60 million project will advance the study of biology, chemistry, environmental science, physics, and engineering. Forming a dynamic link between the existing Life Science building and Trexler Hall, the four-story facility will feature eight teaching labs, classrooms, and technology-rich fabrication and visualization labs to provide opportunities for hands-on learning.

Designed by HMC Architects with Research Facilities Design (RFD) as laboratory consultant, the $86 million facility houses classrooms and lecture halls alongside a 4,000-sf science center at the main entrance.

University of Utah Opens Applied Science Building

The University of Utah opened the L.S. Skaggs Applied Science Building in July of 2025 in Salt Lake City to drive advances in research, education, and commercial innovation. Designed by EDA, the 100,000-sf facility is part of the $97 million Applied Science Project, which also encompasses a 40,700-sf renovation of the historic William Stewart Building. The integrated complex features wet and dry labs where teams of scientists will address the country’s most urgent issues, from energy and climate change to air quality and water management.
