The University of Texas at Tyler opened a $308 million facility for the School of Medicine in April of 2026. The nearly 250,000-sf building will strengthen health infrastructure and address national and regional provider shortages by creating a robust talent pipeline and expanding residency programs. Designed by Gensler and Fitzpatrick Architects, the five-story facility accommodates multifunctional venues for teaching and learning, including 16 clinical rooms for flexible skills training, four simulation labs, and specialized anatomy labs, as well as a student lounge.
The dynamic hub also offers a range of clinical services, encompassing orthopedics, pulmonary care, sports medicine, women’s health, and physical therapy. Specialty teaching clinics are accompanied by imaging spaces and an ambulatory surgical center with eight fully equipped suites. Strategically sited on five acres in the city’s midtown medical district, the sophisticated development features a skybridge connecting to the UT Health East Texas Hospital, fostering a collaborative environment for hands-on learning and active exchange.
Skanska USA partnered with HGR General Contractors to deliver the project as a joint venture, with KSC Inc. designing, fabricating, and installing the 54,000-sf façade system. Ground was broken in January of 2023.
