Published 6/3/2018

The University of Plymouth opened the £17 million Derriford Research Facility in May of 2018 in the United Kingdom. Sited adjacent to the Peninsula Schools of Medicine and Dentistry at Plymouth Science Park, the 25,000-sf building is the headquarters of the Institute of Translational and Stratified Medicine. Providing advanced technologies for biomedical research, the facility includes Level 2 and 3 biocontainment labs; the Plymouth Light Microscopy Service facility; the Brain Tumour Research Centre of Excellence; and the Systems Biology Centre, which offers advanced instrumentation for genomics, proteomics, next generation sequencing, and quantitative mass spectrometry. Supporting the study of cancer, clinical neuroscience, and immunology, the building also provides suites for flow cytometry, cell and tissue culture, and electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR). General contractor Kier Construction broke ground on the project in July of 2015.
