The University of Louisville broke ground in April of 2026 on the Health Sciences Building to advance discovery and provide the critical infrastructure needed to prepare the next generation of healthcare providers in Kentucky and beyond. Designed by Perkins&Will and Champlin | EOP, the $280 million facility will act as a nexus for the schools of medicine, nursing, public health, information sciences, and dentistry. Modular classrooms for multiple professions will promote interdisciplinary education, and extensive medical simulation venues will employ the latest technologies. The six-story, 257,000-sf center will also accommodate research laboratories, conference rooms, and workplaces.

Customized spaces for each program will be strategically interwoven to mimic the collaborative nature of modern healthcare delivery, and a prominent vertical stair will foster interaction and exchange. The first two floors will form a transparent academic commons that places skills labs on display to allow students, faculty, and visitors to observe experiential learning in action. Supported by $260 million in state funding, the sustainable development is targeting LEED Gold certification. The high-performance structure will incorporate window glazing that prevents glare and heat gain while transmitting natural light to the interior. Occupant wellbeing will be enhanced through access to formal and informal areas for working and gathering, as well as outdoor green zones.

Messer Construction is serving as general contractor, with CMTA as MEP engineer, KPFF as structural engineer, and Gresham Smith as civil engineer and landscape architect. The project team also includes NV5, Introba, Vermeulens, Jensen Hughes, and Lerch Bates. Occupancy is slated for 2029.
