Hamilton College is constructing the Nye Center for Innovation and Technology in Clinton, N.Y., as a flexible hub for education, experimentation, and interdisciplinary research. Designed by Kennedy & Violich Architecture to spark collaboration and creativity, the 41,000-sf facility will accommodate the growing Computer Science Department and provide students with unique opportunities for immersive learning. The $50 million building will feature 11 laboratories, including two lecture labs, four teaching labs, and five research labs that integrate experimental environments for work in electronics and robotics.

A hybrid academic and meeting space will be complemented by two multipurpose classrooms, a seminar venue, and 10 offices with dedicated tutorial capacity. Leveraging high-speed computing capabilities, the four-story structure will house a digital gallery, a motion-capture studio, and a maker space that supports laser cutting, 3D printing, and working with wood and metal. The vibrant development will be illuminated by natural light, with a central atrium serving as a mixer hub with bleacher seating. An enclosed area beneath a new terrace will form a connection to the Burke Library.

Consigli Construction is the general contractor, with Rifenburg as sitework contractor and EKH Adjorlolo & Associates as BIM coordination consultant. The project team also includes Siemens, Decker Land Surveying, and Delta Engineers, Architects, & Surveyors. Enabling work began in September of 2024 and occupancy is scheduled for January of 2027.
