City of Hope Opens Specialty Cancer Hospital in Orange County

City of Hope celebrated the opening of a $452 million specialty cancer facility in December of 2025 in Irvine, Calif. Designed by HOK, the 73-bed hospital accommodates intensive care and medical-surgical units, four operating rooms, two procedure rooms, and an eight-bed evaluation and treatment center. The six-story structure also accommodates an inpatient rehabilitation gym, an immersive multifaith spiritual zone, and outdoor terraces on each floor.

The University of Kansas opened the redeveloped David Booth Memorial Kansas Stadium in August of 2025, marking the completion of the first phase of the new Gateway District. Designed by HNTB and Multistudio as an inviting entrance to campus, the $448 million project elevates the fan experience with a restructured bowl layout offering improved sightlines and increased proximity to the field. Diverse premium seating options include ledge suites, loge boxes, and 2,300 club seats distributed across three social zones.

Oxford United Football Club Plans All-Electric Stadium

Oxford United Football Club is planning to construct an all-electric stadium in the United Kingdom to elevate the fan experience. Designed by AFL Architects, the 16,000-seat venue will feature additional levels at the north and west stands, adjoined by a 180-bed hotel. The wider mixed-use development may also include a 1,000-seat conference center, a 7,427-sf gym, an 8,826-sf health and wellbeing zone, and a 2,152-sf sports bar.

Athletic Facilities Designed to Accommodate Women at All Levels

One of the biggest sea changes in both professional and collegiate athletics is the increased participation of women at all levels—as team owners, athletes, coaches, officials, and staff. Coverage of women’s basketball and women’s soccer, which eclipsed men’s soccer for a time, seems to dominate the sports news cycle, and viewership is expected to keep rising in 2025. The Professional Women’s Hockey League played its first game in January 2024, and the world’s first stadium built solely for a professional women’s sports team opened in March 2024. January 2025 saw the inauguration of a new 3x3 women’s professional basketball league, called Unrivaled, based in Miami. Revenue from women’s sports nearly doubled in 2024, to $1.88 billion globally, and is projected to reach $2.35 billion in 2025. More than half of that revenue came from North America, and investors are taking note.

The Charlotte Hornets will break ground in early 2025 on a state-of-the-art performance facility adjacent to the existing Spectrum Center. Designed by Populous, the 160,000-sf building will feature 100,000 sf of space for training, conditioning, and practice, as well as areas for recovery and rehabilitation. The Hornet's business operations will occupy 35,000 sf in the building, complemented by 2,500 sf of ground-level retail to activate the fan experience. Designed by Bohlin Cywinski Jackson, the renovated and expanded facility embodies a new paradigm for holistic student health on the Pittsburg campus. The four-story, 154,000-sf development features a modern athletics facility for practice, performance, training, and athlete care, complemented by full-service clinical areas for University Health Services.
