Louisiana State University (LSU) opened the Our Lady of the Lake Health Interdisciplinary Science Building in April of 2026 in Baton Rouge. Serving as a vibrant nexus for scientific inquiry, STEM education, and industry collaboration, the new home of the College of Science drives innovation in the five key focus areas of geology and geophysics, chemistry, biological sciences, mathematics, and astronomy and physics. The $148 million facility features leading-edge laboratories including venues for data visualization, a trace metals lab, and a trace isotope facility. A 250-seat auditorium is complemented by active learning classrooms that integrate the latest technologies.

Spanning 148,000 sf, the highly transparent structure accommodates cross-disciplinary collaboration spaces, environments that foster partnerships with private companies, and the LSU Theoretical Institute, a premier incubator that supports research endeavors in science, mathematics, and quantum information theory. The four-story development also houses student success and engagement centers, the dean’s office, and a food commons.

Designed by EskewDumezRipple with Payette as the laboratory and interior design architect, the dynamic facility was constructed by MAPP. Newcomb & Boyd was the mechanical and electrical engineer, with Fox-Nesbit as structural and civil engineer and CARBO as landscape architect. Supported by $105 million in state funding, the sustainable building implemented an air cascade strategy alongside other efficiency measures to achieve a projected energy use intensity (EUI) that represents a 76 percent improvement as compared to the baseline AIA 2030 Commitment. Ground was broken in March of 2024.
