University of North Texas Constructs Science and Technology Building

Published 11/3/2025

The University of North Texas is constructing the Science and Technology Building on its Denton campus. Designed by SmithGroup, the $109 million facility will serve the College of Science, the College of Engineering, the College of Health and Public Service, and other departments and programs. Offering students unique opportunities for experiential learning and cross-training, the 111,000-sf structure will support expanding research foci including biomedical engineering, physics, biology, chemistry, data science, and computer science and engineering.

Flexible wet and dry labs will be accompanied by clinical spaces and collaboration venues to promote multidisciplinary knowledge exchange. In addition to a vivarium and a BSL-3 lab, the five-story development will provide offices for researchers and core equipment areas to accelerate discovery and enhance data analysis capabilities. This dynamic project is part of the university’s five-year strategic plan which aims to catalyze innovation by increasing research infrastructure. Skanska broke ground on the building in 2024 and completion is anticipated in 2026.
