Michigan State University is planning to construct the Engineering and Digital Innovation (EDI) Center in East Lansing. Supporting increased enrollment for undergraduate and postgraduate cohorts, the $340 million facility will house the colleges of engineering, natural science, business, social science, arts and letters, and communication arts and sciences. The 270,000-sf building will provide leading-edge research infrastructure to catalyze discoveries in advanced manufacturing, artificial intelligence, quantum computing, ultrafast science, and heterogeneous micro-electronic technologies.

Enabling experimental and computational research, a materials science area will feature core facilities, cleanrooms, and flexible laboratory modules. A digital experience wing will accommodate active learning classrooms, teaching labs, instructional project studios, and an esports competition area. A dedicated space for student entrepreneurship and innovation will occupy 10,000 sf, and vibrant community settings will promote informal gathering and interdisciplinary collaboration.

HGA and Integrated Design Solutions’ architectural vision for the multistory structure will leverage strategic proximity to other engineering and STEM buildings on campus to create a transformative ecosystem for education and scientific inquiry. Construction of this dynamic nexus is backed by $30 million in state funding and completion is expected by summer of 2028.
